Historic New England's Watson Farm in Jamestown, R.I. will be the site for a guided tour of grassland habitat that has been preserved for the endangered bobolink.
This special tour of the Watson Farm fields is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 10 a.m. It is free and open to everyone.
Stephen Swallow from the University of Connecticut and Don Minto, Watson Farm manager, will lead the tour.
Swallow has been promoting a conservation project in Vermont and Rhode Island to get local community members to pledge dollars to reimburse farmers for a partial value of their hay crop if that farmer would delay harvest until July 15. The delay allows bobolinks time to nest.
The Watson Farm is located at 455 North Main Road in Jamestown. Historic New England is the oldest, largest, and most comprehensive regional heritage organization in the nation.
