A couple of years ago, I bought a makeup lesson on one of those group deal websites.
The voucher still sits in my email inbox, unused and expired. I never got around to making the appointment because deadlines, errands and dates always seemed more pressing than perfecting my eye-lining technique or learning about contouring.
But if I could take the class from the comfort of my own couch? Now that's something I might be able to fit in.
Enter Rhode Island makeup artist Kirsten Brusse. Her new six-week Virtual Beauty Workshop covers all the bases -- skincare, tools, eyes, blush, bronzer, foundation -- through email newsletters and online videos that can be watched at any time.
"We are all so busy that it is hard to get a group of people in a room at the same time," said Brusse, of Joli Visage Makeup Artistry. "I thought this would be the next best thing."
The high-tech tutorial also offers some personal attention; Brusse will provide product recommendations for each participant based on the results of a questionnaire delving into things such as lifestyle, diet, skin type and coloring. And there will be plenty of time for Q&A (I'm dying to know: Is primer really necessary?).
The workshop costs $75 per person and begins January 21.
