Fashion royalty is coming to Rhode Island. Vogue contributing editor André Leon Talley -- a.k.a. Anna Wintour's right-hand man -- is scheduled to appear at Providence's RISD Museum in April for events related to the opening of the exhibit "Artist/Rebel/Dandy: Men of Fashion."
The style-setting Brown University alumnus (M.A., French Studies) is slated to sign his forthcoming book,"The Little Black Dress," in the museum's Chace Center on April 26 at 1 p.m. The event is free, but reservations (accepted beginning April 1) are required.
That evening, Talley is expected to attend the Museum Associates Annual Gala Fundraiser, a $500-a-ticket-event that includes a preview of the men's fashion exhibit, dinner, cocktails and dancing.
"Artist/Rebel/Dandy: Men of Fashion" -- on view April 28 through Aug. 18 -- focuses on the persona and history of the dandy in the 19th and 20th centuries through garments, caricatures and photographs.
The exhibit, according to curators Kate Irvin and Laurie Brewer, "proposes a new line of inquiry that examines, deconstructs, and expands on popular definitions of the dandy from one solely concerned with flamboyance and flash to a figure who is innovative, rebellious and profound in thought."
